General Conditions

  1. Heating Security Plans offered by Maine Energy, Inc. are available only to persons who purchase their entire year's fuel oil supply from Maine Energy, Inc. and are on automatic delivery.
  2. All heating equipment must be cleaned and inspected by our authorized technician, and must be in good condition before a service contract can be put into effect. Repairs made to bring the heating equipment into acceptable condition will be billed separately and in addition to the price of the service contract. If the heating equipment fails the inspection and no agreement is made to make the necessary repairs only the time and parts needed to clean and inspect the heating system will be billed to the customer and no contract will be issued. We reserve the right to decline an order for purchase of coverage after full inspection has been completed.
  3. An inspection or the heating plant is defined as a cleaning and tune up. During this service if our service technician should find a problem not covered by the contract that problem must be repaired and paid for as a separate item, not included in the price of the service contract before a contract can be issued or re-issued.
  4. Service contracts expire one year from the date of purchase.
  5. All contracts are NOT automatically renewable year-to-year. Maine Energy, Inc. reserves the right to inspect the heating system on an annual basis for system defects before an approval of coverage is granted.
  6. Any service contract or plan in effect is considered used and is NOT transferable or refundable. Used contracts have no cash value.
  7. Only one system is covered by one service contract. Separate water heaters are not covered by the furnace service contract.
  8. This plan covers residential heating systems with a maximum firing rate of 2.5 G.P.H., firing rates above this will not be covered. This plan does not cover or protect systems that are associated with any wood or coal burning systems or equipment, or installation of parts provided by the customer. This plan does not protect equipment which has become obsolete, or for which replacement parts are no longer available.
  9. Services will be performed as soon as feasible under normal conditions. However, Maine Energy, Inc. shall not be liable for any delay to supply any service due to conditions beyond its control. The plan and/or Maine Energy, Inc. shall not be liable for any consequential damage due to floods, fires, lightning, freezing or other acts of God. It does not cover draining of expansion tanks, power failures, switches found in the "off" position, or improperly set thermostats. This plan does not cover air trapped in the heating pipes or radiators, which must be bled in order to restore heat to or to quiet the system.
  10. Repair or replacement of any or all parts listed under the plans is covered by the plan. No other parts of the furnace, boiler or heating system are covered. Parts not covered include the servicing and replacement of any device that water passes though, such as piping, radiation, valves, domestic hot water items and labor costs associated with these items.
  11. The fuel tank, fuel line, thermostat, thermostat wire, or any other extensions of the heating system are not covered by this plan.
  12. Low fuel level or cold fuel is billable for labor under this plan.
  13. This plan will not cover a heating system or have any responsibility for a system that any other company has worked on while under our plan unless we made the arrangement for this service.
  14. Any service required after 4:00 p.m. weekdays or on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays must be the result of complete mechanical failure of the unit, causing NO HEAT. Any other service call received after regular business hours will be billed at the hourly rate in effect at that time.
  15. Payment is due within thirty (30) days after the billing date unless other arrangements are made with the credit department's approval. If payment is not received within thirty (30) days the contract is subject to termination and all work performed prior, and in the future, will be billed at prevailing rates.
  16. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY: Before calling for service in the event of heating system failure be sure:
    1. All switches are in the "on" position
    2. To replace any defective fuses
    3. To check oil supply
    4. Thermostat setting is above room temperature
    5. To push the reset button only ONCE
